Alpha Hydroxy Acids
Alpha hydroxy acids are available in many different forms. It is commonly used as a skin care product. It is included in cleansers masks moisturizers and anti-aging products. The most common types used are glycolic acid and citric acid. The glycolic acid is created from sugarcane and the citric acid from citrus fruits. There is also lactic acid that is created from milk. All three types of acids provide wonderful results of a youthful and softer skin.
The alpha hydroxy acids help to exfoliate the skin. When used as a skin care treatment it is applied to the surface of the skin and helps to remove the dead skin cells leaving smoother skin and allowing the skin to breath and become revitalized. Alpha hydroxy acids can irritate the skin so there are recommendations for the proper use of the product. The commercial products that are sold over the counter do not contain more than 10% alpha hydroxy acid yet it should be realized it only takes between 8 and 10% to achieve the benefits. To make sure you are getting the most from the product also verify the pH levels of the product are between three and four for the higher results.
When using alpha hydroxy acids it is important to know the skin will be more sensitive to any exposure to the sun. When in the sun make sure to wear sunscreen and use caution to avoid burning the skin.
Alpha hydroxy acids exfoliate the skin to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It also increases the production of collage that diminishes with age and is a natural element to help with the youthful skin that is soft and smooth.
